Tourist Attractions in Brahmanbaria
Brahmanbaria's geographical location is on the eastern border of Bangladesh. The Tripura State of India is on the east side of this district. Comilla lies on the south, Narsingdi and Kishoreganj districts on the west, and Habiganj district of Sylhet division to the north.
The district was established in 1984. Earlier this district was included in the district of Comilla (old name Tipara). This region was a part of the Samatata of ancient Bengal. The tradition of art and culture of this region is very old. This city is called the cultural capital of Bangladesh. In 1869, the city was transformed into a municipality.
Brahmanbaria district is rich in natural gases. This district has one of the largest gas fields and important gas excavating areas in the country. Up to the year 2000, fourteen gas wells have been excavated in this area.
Other than gas fields, this district has some important heavy industries in Bangladesh. Among those Ashuganj thermal power plant, the Ashugonj fertilizer factory, and the small and cottage industries are worth mentioning.
The gas fields are one of the popular tourist attractions of this district. However, special permission is required to visit the main excavation area of the well. As an ancient township, this district has many archaeological sites that are interesting to explore. Also, there are some backwaters in this region that are pleasant places to visit.
Among the ancient sites, Hatirpool Bridge, Ariphil Mosque, Horipur Palace, Old House at Gokorno village, and Kharampur Mazar Sharif are notable.
