Chapai Nawabganj is located on the northwestern border of Bangladesh. It is an administrative district in Rajshahi division.
This district is also called Nawabganj and Chapai. Before the partition of the Indian subcontinent, it was a part of the Maldah district of West Bengal (India). In 1947, it was separated from Maldah was included in East Pakistan, and was considered as a subdivision of the Rajshahi district. In 1984, it was established as a district.
During the pre-British and British era, the Nawabs of Murshidabad used to come here to hunt accompanied by their people. Therefore in the course of time, the place is named Nawabganj (place of Nawabs).
The economy of Chapainawabganj district is mainly based on agriculture. This region is also famous for its seasonal mangos. The district is known as the Mango Capital of Bangladesh because this summer fruit is the main source of the economy of this district. In summer, the major quantity of mangos is delivered across the country from this district. The largest mango markets of Bangladesh sit here during the season. Thus, this district is also called the land of mangos.
One of the major places of interest in this district is Choto Sona Mosque. Other attractions are Shah Neamotullah's Tomb, Chamchika Mosque, Darasbari Mosque, Dhaniyachak Mosque, Shopnopalli, and Nachol Palace.
