Tourist Attractions in Comilla
Comilla is one of the most important districts in Bangladesh. This is one of the 21 districts of Bangladesh before the 64 districts were born.
This district is an administrative unit of Chittagong Division of south-eastern Bangladesh. Brahmanbaria is located in the north of Comilla, Noakhali, and Feni on the south, Tripura of India on the east, and Munshiganj, Chandpur, and Narayanganj districts on the west.
According to historians, the Buddhist dynasty ruled this region from the 7th century to the middle of the 8th century. In the ninth century, the region came under the rule of Harikela kings. It is found from the fact that from around the 10th century till the middle of the 11th century, this area was governed by the Chandra Dynasty.
In 1947, after the partition of India, Tripura was renamed as Comilla in 1960, and since then the post of District Magistrate and Collector was renamed as Deputy Commissioner. In 1984, Chandpur and Brahmanbaria (two subdivisions of Comilla) were reconstituted as separate districts.
The district is famous for the favorite fabric Khadi or Khaddar of Bangladesh. This handloom fabric of this region has been famous in the entire sub-continent since ancient times.
The pottery of this area was among the rich traditions of Bangladesh. Comilla’s pottery was famous across the country. There is also a pottery cooperative society in this district.
Comilla has many places of interest for the tourists. Since this is an ancient region, many ruins, ancient mosques, and temples are found here.
Shalban Buddhist Bihar is one of the ancient civilizations of Bangladesh and a great place to visit. With the archaeological excavation, eight copper plates, 400 gold and silver coins, and many burns of terracotta, seal, and bronze statues were found in the ruins of this monastery. They are carrying the signs of the ancient archaeological heritage of Bangladesh.
Mainamati War Cemetery is a Commonwealth war cemetery located in Comilla. This was built in memory of 45,000 Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in Burma's war in World War II.
