Hiron Point
Hiron Point is a protected wildlife sanctuary in the south of the Sundarbans. Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world. It is located on the west bank of Kunga River in Khulna district which is in the southern part of Bangladesh. Another name for Hiron Point is Nilkamal. UNESCO has recognized Hiron Point as a World Heritage site.
As a wildlife sanctuary, Hiron Point is home to many tigers, deer, monkeys, birds, and reptiles. This place is one of the most famous places to see the Royal Bengal Tiger in the Sunderbans area. Besides, Bengal tigers, Chitra deer, wild pigs, and many birds are found in Hiron Point. Among the birds, there are White Chest Kingfish, Yellow Chest Kingfish, Blackhead Kingfish Dhani bok, etc. Different species of crabs and colorful butterflies are also seen here.
There is no rest house for the tourists to stay here. But there are two banquet stations in a delightful environment to relax and enjoy. One of those is "Obokash" and the other is "Khanik". There is a spectacular map of Sundarbans made with various colored stones in Hiron Point. Where the wildlife sanctuaries are, where tigers, deer, crocodiles, monkeys, and snakes can be observed, everything has been shown by the statues of different animals on this map. Looking at this map, tourists can get an idea about the entire Sundarbans forest.
