Tourist Attractions in Kushtia
Kushtia is a border district in the southwestern region of Bangladesh. It is in the Khulna administrative division. The geographical position of this district is - to the north, Rajshahi, Natore, and Pabna; Chuadanga and Jhenaidah districts on the south; Rajbari in the east Meherpur district and West Bengal of India.
Kushtia was under the estate administration of Natore in 1725. Later, the British East India Company included Kushtia in Jessore district in 1776. But in 1828 it was included in Pabna district. Kushtia subdivision was established in 1861. Before the partition of the Indian sub-continent, Kushtia was a subdivision of Nadia district. In 1947, the emergence of Kushtia district took place.
There are many stories about the naming of Kushtia. Kushtia has been named after Kosta (jute) as jute was cultivated in this region on a large scale. Hameltton's Gazetteer mentions that the local people call jute Kushti and thus the name of this area became Kushtia.
There are not many tourist attractions in this district, but there are a few famous spots. These are among the best tourist attractions of Bangladesh. One is the Kuthibari (palace) of the famous Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore, and the other is the tomb of Lalon Shah, the founder of Baul song (religious music).
