Pirojpur is a land of natural beauty with green fields, sculpted rivers and canals, and paddy fields. Located in the northeast of the Sundarbans, Pirojpur is a district of South Bengal under Barisal division.

Pirojpur subdivision was established in 1859 in the British era. At that time the present Bagerhat district was in the Pirojpur subdivision. It has been upgraded to the district in 1984.

There are different opinions about the history of naming this district. According to some etymologists, it was named Firojpur, after a ruler of this region Firoz Shah, later it was converted to Pirojpur.

Pirojpur is not a highly industrialized district. Heavy industries are not developed here yet. A large part of the population is engaged in farming. The soil here is very fertile, and lots of crops are produced here. Crops include pulses, rice, banana, pepper, betel leaf, and vegetables.

Among the ancient monuments of Pirojpur, Royerkathi Zamindar House, Shapleza Kuthibari in Mathbaria, Central Pirojpur ancient mosque, and Mamin Mosque of Mathbaria are worth visiting. Besides, Hularhat River Port, Baleshwar Ghat Memorial Monument, DC Park of Pirojpur, and Kadamtala George High School are some of the tourist attractions in the district.
