Bagha Shahi Masjid
Bagha Shahi Mosque is a historic mosque situated in Bagha Upazila in Rajshahi district. Located about 40 kilometers southeast of Rajshahi district headquarters, it is one of the most spectacular mosques built in the 15th century. The founder of the Husain Shahi dynasty Alauddin Shah's son Sultan Nasiruddin Nasrat Shah built the mosque in 1523.
The whole masjid complex occupies about 256 bighas of land. There are 10 domes and 6 pillars in the mosque. It also has 4 artistic Mahrabs inside. The entire mosque both inside and outside is decorated with beautiful terracotta designs.
This 500-year-old Shahi Mosque is now the most visited place in Rajshahi. The domes and the roof were reconstructed after being damaged in 1897. There is also a large pond in front of the mosque which is another attraction for tourists. The area of the pond occupies 52 bighas of land. A series of coconut trees surround the pond. A shrine of Johar Khaki Pir is also located adjacent to the mosque.
There are two huge gates on both sides of the mosque. To display the tradition of the Varendra region, thousands of craftsmanship used in this mosque such as Persian engraving, terracotta or terracotta artworks, etc.
The Bagha Mela is organized for 3 days from the day of Eid-ul-Fitr every year in the adjacent areas of this mosque. The fair is a 500-year-old tradition. Every year, thousands of people rush from different parts of the country to attend this traditional fair.
